Scorpion Tea – Scorpion Tea (Album – Give/Take)

Genre/Influences: Post-Punk, Dark-Wave.

Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.

Background/Info: This is the debut-, self-titled album by American formation Scorpion Tea. The band is featuring Christian Cruz (guitars), Anthony Diaz (vocals, synths) Edley Odowd (drums, backing vocals, electronics) and Fern Puma (bass).

Content: The album is getting us back to Post-Punk and Dark-Wave influences with a little, extra, boosting, Industrial touch on top. I don’t want to compare “Scorpion Tea” to any other formation but it sounds a bit like the imaginary hybrid between The Virgin Prunes, The Stooges and Big Black.

+ + + : This is a solid debut album driven by impressive guitar playing. It’s a raw and merciless production covered with darkness and a ‘no compromises’ attitude.

– – – : Cool songs but not really a potential hit to me.Three songs were previously released as singles but aren’t my personal favorite ones.

Conclusion: Promising debut which will appeal to Post-Punk freaks.

Best songs: “Take Solace In Suffering”, “Clandestine Whispers”.

Rate: 7½.
