holeg [ SPIES]
Aka Spies, Crossfinger (with Phlrx), Deadly Sonic (with Kris Kylven)

For more than 10 years, Holeg has been performing on the international electronic-music scene. Based in France, he is known and respected for his hybrid style. First as a Dj and then as a composer/producer, Holeg has always tended to get beyond musical segmentations.

Everything started in 1993, thanks to Patrick Rognant’s Î⤙Β« Rave Up Î⤙Β» show on Radio FG in Paris. Then, as the main techno-trance Dj for the booking agency Out Soon (Jeff Mills, Manu Le Malin and many others artists), Holeg has developped his Dj’ing first in France and slowly travelled all around Europe.

January 1995, Sir-Cus booked him for the first techno tour produced in India. Thanks to his hybrid Dj style, he has played in many diverse events.

In 1996, sponsored by Mike Maguire of Juno Reactor (composer for Matrix), Holeg went to Japan for his first gig²β¬Β¦from that moment on, Japan has become for Holeg the main place where he keeps on touring twice a year.

From 1993 to 1998, Holeg’s main activity was his Dj’ing.

1996/1998, Holeg was A&R for a trance sub-division of the French label Omnisonus (BMG/Polygram). Compiling for this label and Fairways, Holeg launched his first musical project ⤙Β« Karmic Energies ⤙Β». In 1998, this project turned into Spies.

Due to his connections, the first Spies’ releases (1998-2000) appeared on Transient (UK), Dino Psaras’ label Atomic (UK), Tim Schuldt’s label Aurinko (Ger), Equinox/Techno Flux (Juno Reactor’s producers for Japan)Î²βâ¤¬Β¦then, on labels from different musical scenes and spread around the globe.

Holeg / Spies influences are very diverse :

ethnic/ritual music > Z.Hussain, De La Guarda, Thessalonians…

psychedelicS > Velvet Underground, Can, Chrome…

gothic > Dead Can Dance, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees…

electro-industrial > Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Mimetic, Von Magnet…

industrial-rock > Nine Inch Nails, Laibach, Skinny Puppy…

Due to these influences, Spies has become a mutating project going through trends and searching beyond the limits of segmentations… Spies is an hybrid musical project ranging from soundtrack-techno-rock-ritual-ambiant-techno-electro-industrial-like stuff to…

Some comments…

“a sure mixing of unbridled experimentations, mastered industrial and techno reminiscences”. (Elegy-Fr)

“Unclassifiable, as destabilizing as possible” (D-Side, Fr)

“beautiful ambient-passages with bombastic surface-sounds and soundpaintings are carrying the apocalyptic background noise, while floating trance and breakbeats with an industrial touch ” (Orkus, Ger)

““very surprising, solid, conceptual” (MG, Russia)

“pure soundtrack music” (Side-Line, Belg)

“impressive and perfectly balanced electronic music with a huge cinematic potential and enigmatic charisma” (The Machinist, Minsk)

2000-2001, the first Spies album ⤙Β« notinism ⤙Β» was released in Japan by Technoflux and by Flatline/Antzen for Europe. This album was the soundtrack of the movie ⤙Β« notinism.org ⤙Β» written and produced with Thierry Saint-Paul (1998 to 2001).

Spies is always moving. That’s why Spies temporarly turned into Holeg and the Spies in 2003 for the second album Î⤙Β« reality drift Î⤙Β» whose target was to gather collaborators coming from different musical scenes such as Von Magnet (electro-flamenco), Mimetic (industrial), Shaolin Wooden Men (progressive electronics), Tim Schuldt (trance and metal), Implant (electro), and some traditional musicians coming from Jazz, Blues and African percussions. This double Cd was released by Wirikuta recordings.

Remixer for Von Magnet, Mimetic, Implant, BakXIII and audio-visual remixer for the famous Miike Takashi’s movie Î⤙Β« Ichi the Killer Î⤙Β» which was awarded at the Rotterdam movie festival.
